在Office 2007辦公套裝中，微軟引入了新的Office Open XML格式，帶來了諸多全新特性，但也導致舊版Office無法兼容新格式文檔。為此，微軟發布了一個兼容包，讓Office 2000/XP/2003的用戶也得以打開、編輯、保存Word/Excel/PowerPoint 2007創建的各種新文檔，如docx、xlsx、pptx、xltx、potx等。
